Folios 496-497: Joshua Mulock, HMS Hindostan, Deptford. Reports the case of William Jackson, who was discharged into the ship from HMS Courageuse. Commander John Richards told him Jackson had been impressed because he was trying to encourage the crew of the Courageuse to desert. On the passage to Algiers Jackson entered for the ship voluntarily and was being considered for promotion to Petty Officer. Is surprised at his change of heart. Returns the enclosure.
Folios 498-499: enclosed with folios 496-497. Letter dated 7 October 1800 from Thomas Poole, Dorset Street, to the Admiralty seeking the discharge of William Jackson, now aboard HMS Hindostan at Deptford. Jackson reports he was impressed by and officer of HMS Courageuse and drafted to the Hindostan for a voyage to Algiers. Encloses [not present] his protection certificate and indenture and says his friends are willing to provide a substitute. If the Hindostan is about to sail, asks that he be transferred to HMS Enterprise.
