Folios 457-458: Joshua Mulock, HMS Hindostan, Port Mahon. Encloses a letter from Purser John R Payne about the expense of providing Necessaries for the troops now on board. When the Hindostan received orders for England in June, she distributed all her extra stores and provisions to other vessels, and then was unexpectedly ordered to embark 1,250 men of the 40th Regiment. Asks for Mr Payne to be allowed compensation for this extra expense.
Folios 459-460: enclosed with folios 457-458. Letter dated 31 July 1800 from Purser John R Payne, HMS Hindostan, Port Mahon, to Captain Joshua Mulock. Asks to be reimbursed for the extra expense of providing Necessaries, particularly coal, wood and candles, for the 1,250 troops they were ordered to embark.
