Description

Folios 201-207: Correspondence regarding the supply of coal to HM ships calling at Saudakan N Borneo with a list of the letters enclosed provided (folio 201).

Encloses letter (folios 202-204): W H [William Hood] Treacher, Governor of Sabah, British North Borneo, Labuan dated 21 March 1882 to Captain [James W] East RN, Senior Naval Officer, [HMS Comus] Labuan, offering the supply of coal to HM ships in North Borneo through Saundakan.

Encloses letter (folio 205): George O Willes, Vice Admiral, Commander-in-Chief, HMS Iron Duke at Hong Kong dated 15 April 1882 to W H [William Hood] Treacher, Governor of Sabah, North Borneo, outlining that there is currently no interest to enter a contract regarding the supply of coal at Saundakan or elsewhere, but highlighting the convenience of refuelling in North Borneo.

Encloses letter (folios 206-207): W H [William Hood] Treacher, Governor of Sabah, N Borneo, Labuan dated 11 May 1882 to His Excellency, Admiral George O Willes, Commander-in-Chief, acknowledging receipt of the previous letter and providing an update on the coal situation in North Borneo and at Labuan.
