Folios 88-92: Correspondence regarding HMS Magpie performing surveying work.
Encloses letter (folios 88-89): Admiralty (signed G Tryon), dated 27 September 1883 to Vice Admiral Willes CB, China, informing that HMS Magpie after her refit at Singapore will determine the positions of a number of islands off the West Coast of Siam and will not return to the North East Coast of Borneo.
Encloses letter (folios 90-91): Foley C P Vereker, Commander, HMS Magpie at Penang dated 25 January 1884 to Vice Admiral George O Willes CB RN, Commander-in-Chief, China Station, reporting on the progress of the surveying that is taking place between Penang and Raugoor.
Encloses letter (folio 92): Admiralty (signed G Tryon), dated 7 January 1884 to Vice Admiral Willes CB, China, informing of the request by the Colonial Office (through the governor of the Straits Settlements) for a survey of Penang Harbour, which HMS Magpie will now undertake.
