Folios 182-183: Wilson Rathborne, 17 Young Street, Kensington. He has been asked to state the case of Marquis Hart, alias John Kirby with a view to ascertaining whether or not he is an American seaman or not. John Kirby was impressed by Lieutenant Lapsley at Newcastle on 21 April 1813, being an apprentice believed to have been at sea for more than three years. He claimed he was an American citizen and therefore could not be expected to serve in the Royal Navy. As he appeared to have a good knowledge of the coast of America, Captain Rathbone sent him to London as a prisoner of war.
