Description

Folios 214-215: Robert Ramsay, HMS Regulus, Spithead. Writes to give an account of the late Commander Samuel Blyth of HMS Boxer who died, aged 29, on active service in an encounter with an American brig of superior force, and to say that his widow has applied for relief to the Government without success and also to the Patriotic Fund at Lloyds Coffee House, the secretary of that fund wishes to know what provision may be expected by her from the Government and I have agreed to assist he in this matter, encloses a letter from the Patriotic Fund and gives her agent's name and address.

Folios 216-217: enclosure in folios 214-215. Letter dated 8th March 1814 from Mr J P Welsford, Secretary, the Patriotic Fund, Lloyds Coffee House to Mrs Blyth. Asks for information as to what Pension or Allowance has been made by the Government and also when the account of the action appeared in the Gazette.

Folios 217-218: enclosure in folios 214-215. Letter dated 12 September 1813 from Lieutenant David McCrory, HMS Boxer to Maurice Evans, Navy Agent, 22 George Street, Adelphi, London. Writes a testimonial on the life of the late Samuel Blyth and suggests the wording for a memorial.
