Description

Folios 287-288: Wilson Rathbone, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports on the case of George Barrow, who was sent to the Nore on the tender HMS Eliza on 6 December. Barrow was impressed by Lieutenant Andrew Lapslie at Sunderland on 1 December as an apprentice who had illegally been appointed as Mate of a vessel.

Folios 289-290: enclosed with folios 287-288. Letter signed by George Simpson on behalf of himself and William Christie, Aberdeen, to the Admiralty, 11 December 1810. Enclose a petition to be laid before the Admiralty.

Folios 291-292: enclosed with folios 289-290. Petition signed by George Simpson on behalf of himself and William Christie, ship owners, Aberdeen, to the Admiralty, not dated. George Barrow, son of George Barrow, gardener, of Aberdeen, was bound to them as an apprentice in January 1808, the indenture was verified by Charles Farquharson, Baillie of Aberdeen, and Barrow was then issued an Admiralty protection. He was impressed at Sunderland on 1 December. Ask for his discharge. Postscript. Barrow was carrying his protection when he was impressed, and it is now with him or the Regulating Officer at Sunderland.
