Description

Folios 257-258: Wilson Rathbone, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports on the case of William Driscoll., who was sent to the Nore in the tender HMS Eliza on 6 December. Driscoll was impressed by Lieutenant Andrew Lapslie at South Shields on 30 October from the Frances of London, Robert McIntosh, Master, as being an apprentice who had been appointed Mate to avoid impressment. Returns the enclosures including the register of baptism; he believes Driscoll is older than these papers would indicate.

Folio 259: enclosed with folios 257-258. Affidavit sworn by Robert McIntosh, Master of the Frances of London, before Justice of the Peace George Story, Public Office, High Street, Shadwell, appointing William Driscoll as Mate of the vessel.

Folios 260-261: enclosed with folios 257-258.Letter from [Samuel Somer ?], ship owner, 3 George Yard, Lombard Street, to the Admiralty, 5 December 1810. Encloses a certificate of baptism for William Palm Driscoll which proves he is less than 18 years old. As Driscoll has been impressed from the Frances of London, which he owns, by an Impress Officer at Shields and is aboard the tender HMS Eliza, asks for his discharge.

Folio 262: enclosed with folios 260-261. Baptismal certificate dated 4 December 1810 and signed by E J Burrow, curate, for William Palm Driscoll, son of Matthew Driscoll of Ratcliff, Mariner, and Mary, showing he was baptised at St Dunstan, Stepney, Middlesex on 22 May 1795.
