Description

Folios 178-179: Wilson Rathbone, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports that John Till was detained by Lieutenant John Liddle at Sunderland for being abusive and insolent to the Midshipman and press gang, but Captain Rathbone subsequently ordered him to be discharged as his papers were in order. Returns the Admiralty's enclosures.

Folios 180-181: enclosed with folios 178-179. Letter from George Martin, Hull, to the Admiralty, 17 November 1810. Encloses a memorial seeking the discharge of John Till and a certificate from the Collector of Customs that Till is engaged for the whale fishery for the coming season.

Folio 182: enclosed with folios 180-181. Petition signed by Gardiner Egginton, owner of the ship Egginton of Hull. He recently engaged John Till as a Boatsteerer to sail to the whale fishery for the coming season and the Collector of Customs has given him a protection from impressment. On 14 November Till was impressed at Shields. Seeks his discharge.

Folio 183: blank.

Folio 184: enclosed with folios 180-181. Certificate signed by [illegible] and Charles Lutwidge, Custom House, Hull, 17 November 1810, stating that John Till has given his security to sail as a Boatsteerer with the Egginton, Robert Pinkney, Master, to the Greenland Seas or Davis Strait for the coming season.

Folio 185: blank.
