Folios 43-44: Wilson Rathbone, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports on the case of William Butcher, now aboard HMS Ceres, and return the enclosed papers [not present]. Butcher was impressed by Lieutenant Andrew Lapslie, South Shields, on 17 September, as he had no proof that he was under age. The papers prove nothing, as the certificate only shows the date of his baptism, and the father's affidavit puts the date of his birth as three months after he was baptised.
