Reports that the Purser of HMS Modest [HMS Modeste] late under his Command has sent him their Acting Order from [Vice] Admiral Lord Alexander Arthur Hood for the said ship which directs him only to act until further orders. He encloses [not present] the acting order and request he be recommended as a deserving good man.
