Folios 222-223: John Manley, HMS Apollo, Downs. Reports that he sailed in HMS Apollo from the Nore on 5 April 1795 and anchored off the Buoy of the Nobb, the next day in proceeding to the Downs George Story, Branch Pilot ran the Ship on the Spelt sand off the Culvou[?] [Culver], where after being eleven hours she was got off with the assistance of three Margate Boats with thirty five men, with some damage, having strained a good deal, but not to make than Four inches of water an hour. Though she was almost dry & shored up, he anchored here this morning and finding the two vessels he was to take under his charge had sailed with HMS Trompeuse two days since. He proceeded without loss of time for Spithead and have taken the Pilot with him. He encloses [not present] the Carpenters Defects and his Journal [not present] from leaving the Nore to this time.
