Folios 209-210: Micajah Malbon, HMS Dryad, Downs. reports that on 17 October 1795 in cruising off the Naize [Naze or Lindesnes] of Norway as per Admiral Adam Duncan directions he fell in with and took possession of the Brig Prosperous Mary from Guernsey bound to Gottenburg [Gothenburg] after a chase of three hours from the offing close under the Norway Coast near Langsand Bay [Langsanden Bay] but the Norway Pilot which he had on board refused to take HMS Dryad into such a small Bay after the chase he ordered Captain Adam McKenzie [Adam MacKenzie] Commander of HMS Kite to follow her, who accordingly came up with her in a short time Boarded examined her and demanded the Papers from the Man who said he was Mate the Captain and about thirty men having taken to the boat and left her just as she let go the Anchor before HMS Kite could come alongside of her; But the Mate answer was he had no Papers nor no Commission although he was under English Colours and mounted Ten four pounders and Two Carronades and on further examination found Twenty Rounds of Powder filled Shot Pistols, Pikes etc. Upon Captain Adam McKenzie [Adam MacKenzie] telling the Mate he should search him he then delivered up the Brigs Register and several other Papers, no mention made of any. His having no Clearance whatever from the Customs in consequence of which he ordered her into Christiansand and advised with Mr Mitchell the Consul whose opinion He beg leave to inclose [not present], now the great Probability there seems of her being a Pirate, having no Commission what ever to carry guns has induced him to detain her. on the Death of Captain Robert Allaster Forbes, HMS Dryad. [Mentions his letter dated 11 October 1795 - See ADM 1/2129/84 - Cap M95 - Folios 200-207]. Reports HMS Seagull having again carried away her Main Boom he ordered her to Mandal to refit. On the 7 November 1795 he proceeded to Sea with HMS Kite in company and cruised off the Naze [Lindesnes] in order to fall in with HMS Seagull, but on 8 November 1795 HMS Kite having carried away her Main Top Mast, he being forced to carry sail to keep off shore , lost sight of HMS Kite and arrived in the Downs this Morning.
