Description

Folios 145-146: Jemmett Mainwaring, HMS L'Espiegle [HMS Espiegle], Yarmouth. Reports that on 12 June 1795 he fell in with the Danish Ship Anna Welhelmina laden with Stockfish from Bergen bound to France. As per his instructions dated 30 April 1795 he detained her and was bringing her to this Port but finding himself on the morning of 12 June 1795 five leagues to the South and the wind blowing a Gale and s strong flood tide he thought it better for her safety to order her to Sheerness he sent the Armed Cutter Ann to attend her to that Port. Report of the damage to HMS Espiegle and getting the Carpenter of HMS Camilla, Captain Thomas Graves at this anchorage to permit his carpenter to examine the damage.
