Folios 109-110: Alexander Mackay, Stonehouse near Plymouth. Acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 2 March 1795 in answer [Total of two sides] to his of the 4 February 1795 wherein it was his request to be promoted to the Rank of Post Captain, not from a Lieutenant to a Master & Commander (as you have stated) that honour having been conferred on him in March 1783. In his letter it was his request for employment in any way for the good of the Service. He observes that on reading the Exeter News Paper of 5 March 1795 there are in it a paragraph stating:- Admiralty Office 26 February 1795.- It being probable that several Captains & Lieutenants of the navy will be wanted to regulate the men that may be raised in the several Counties and Sea Ports of this Kingdom. He states he is ready to serve if possible in Campbelltown, Argyleshire or Aberdeen.
