Map 2. New Zealand: 'Taranaki Augt [August] 4th 1860'. Plan, showing coastline, terrain (rivers - in particular the Waitara and Wireka, and hills), New Plymouth, British and Maori fortifications. Key to fortifications identified by letters on the map. Pencilled note seeks to identify two additional localities. No scale shown. Enclosed in Francis E Pratt's letter of 30 October 1860, from OSO Stirling (WO 78/5703/1), informing an unidentified Colonel that the map had just been received from Sir H Barkly, Australia. Formerly in the War Office map library, in portfolio under reference: 'Oceania (New Zealand) Battles, Sieges and Warlike Operations 2'. Sir Henry Barkly was Governor of the Colony of Victoria.
