Folios 228-229: Edward Marsh, St Mary's, Scilly. As per Admiralty instructions of 19 October he has carefully inspected the pikes supplied for his men and reports they are nine feet in length and four and a quarter inches in circumference. The staffs are of ash, and he thinks they would be better in some stouter wood but there is nothing suitable on the islands.
