Folios 208-209: Edward Marsh, St Mary's, Scilly. Acknowledging Admiralty letter of 2 August, instructing him not to enroll tradesmen or landsmen as sea fencibles and to discharge any that have been enrolled thus far. However, he feels he should explain that all such men in these islands are 'very good boatmen' and they do not volunteer for the sea fencibles in order to avoid serving in the Army as there is no option for this here - their purpose is to aid the defence of the islands which greatly depend on the strength of the fencibles. For this reason he will await further instructions before dismissing the enrolled men.
