Folios 172-173: Robert Mansel, HMS Beschermer, in the Wallet. Replying to Admiralty letter of 6 December, with regard to Thomas Dearn, confirms that he does seem to be the apprentice referred to in the indenture and Mansel does not think he was ever at sea.
Folios 174-175: enclosure with folios 172-173. Letter dated 3 December 1803 by G. J. Huntlock & Sons, enclosing a letter from Messrs Robert Henderson & sons of Barrowstowness.
Folios 176-177: enclosure with folios 174-175. Letter dated 29 November 1803 by Henderson & Sons advising that, on 19 November, Lieutenant Campbell of the Beschermer impressed Thomas Dearn from their ship, the Mary, despite the fact that he is a legally bound apprentice and the Master, James Henry, showed the officer the indentures - they now ask for the young man's discharge.
