Folios 152-153: Robert Mansel, HMS Beschermer, in the Wallet. Replying to Admiralty instruction of 8 November that Robert Cooper should be discharged if he appears as represented by Lieutenant Turner, he says that on being impressed Cooper showed an indenture with the dates erased that did not convince the officer in charge, so then offered a Sea Fencibles certificate from 8 October allowing him leave until 20 November. As the indenture appeared fake they assumed the certificate was also, and besides he thinks it unlikely their Lordships would allow the Sea Fencibles to issue protections for 42 days, as this one did. Cooper is an ordinary seaman, 3 years at sea. He awaits their Lordships' further instructions.
