Folios 144-145: Robert Mansel, HMS Beschermer, in the Wallet. Replies to Admiralty query of 27 October, that William Esley and William Gardner were both impressed from a fishing sloop and neither was in possession of any protection, both were able bodied, and Esley had previously served in the Navy during the last war. He points out that their loss did not prevent the fishing vessel from proceeding, and he thinks the two men had been merely passengers onboard.
