Description

Folios 141-142: Robert Mansel, HMS Beschermer, in the Wallet. Responding to Admiralty query of 27 October says that James Cunningham is aged about 25, able-bodied and an ordinary seaman who must have been at sea before his apprenticeship was drawn up, which Mansel thinks merely a ruse to prevent his being taken into the Service.

Folios 143-144: enclosure with folios 141-142. Letter dated 25 October 1803 by Mr Allcock pp D. C. Flowerday, at 5 Beer Lane, to Ewan Nepean, saying that he encloses paperwork and requests the discharge of James Cunningham, impressed into the Beschermer, as his detention is a serious inconvenience to his master.
