Folios 120-121: Robert Mansel, HMS Beschermer, off Harwich. Making a case for his being supplied with a tender, as he says that with only open boats the cross currents of the sea there are very risky, and especially hazardous in winter. He often needs to send people ashore, on various commissions including communicating with the General of the Essex District, and is in dire need of a decked vessel that could perform all duties and prevent loss of men. Notes that on 16 August he had to send his cutter, which in a strong wind was driven onto a sandbank and if it had not been for a local fishermen who took the crew off, they would have been lost.
