Folios 118-119: Robert Mansel, HMS Beschermer, off Harwich. Following Admiralty letter of 17 August he is sending a petition re 29 men currently aboard, with the surgeon's comments on 19 of them who are badly afflicted with pains in the limbs, rheumatism, wounds etc. The other 10 he thinks capable of serving until the cold weather sets in but after that they would be no help as there is not one of them who has not been on the sick list, or scarcely able to perform ordinary duties. He also notes the case of George Freeland, who did not sign the petition as he has an aversion to signing such things, but is afflicted with many complaints and entirely unfit for duty [encloses the man's statement, but neither this nor the petition are now present].
