Folio 22: Thomas Manby, HMS Africaine at Sea. Responding to Admiralty query about two impressed men, Thomas Moorhead and Luke Davidson, says the 4th lieutenant of his ship was sent aboard their vessel and found there were 7 hands, so pressed two of them and left one man in lieu to assist them to London. Moorhead was claimed by the master to be the ship's mate, but had no document to prove it. Also the master treated the lieutenant with 'great insolence' and did all he could to prevent the impressment of both men.
Folio 23: enclosure with folio 22. Sworn statement dated 15 April 1803 of William Bownass, of Newcastle, master of the Henry, collier and trader, that on 12 April off the Nore, an officer belonging to the Africaine boarded the vessel and impressed their chief mate, Thomas Moorhead, and the carpenter Luke Davidson.
Folio 24: enclosure with folio 22. Petition dated 15 April 1803 from William Bownass, master of the Henry of Newcastle, giving an account of the interception of his vessel on 12 April off the Nore and the impressment of Moorhead and Davidson - points out they are not deserters from HM Service and implores they may be released.
Folio 25: blank.
