Folios 295-296: Keith Maxwell, HMS Hound, Deptford. Reply to letter dated 7 May 1803 requesting he state the cases of James Gray and John Brown. He reports that having had information of a number of English Seamen serving in Colliers with American Protections and other samples of the Citizenship of that Country, which he had also good reason assigned for him to believe false. He therefor caused a General Impress of men under the above circumstances in order as far as possible to obtain men. Any with doubtful documentation were sent to the Nore. The above two men James Gray and John Brown having satisfactory proofs were discharged.
