Description

Folios 282-283: Keith Maxwell, HMS Hound, Deptford. Reports that late last night at half-past eleven, having received verbal Commands via Captain Thomas Richbell to cause a General Impress from all Protections, to take place on the River this Day, he took the instant means of conveying to the several Captains and Commanders of His Majesty's Ships and Vessels in the River, their Lordships sealed Orders upon that head, Communicating at the same time the arrangements, the shortness of the time allowed him to make, in causing a General Impress to break out in every part of the River precisely at Eleven this forenoon, the tide and circumstances concurring to render that hour the most eligible. [Total of two sides with details, Mentions:-] Sending Captain John Lamborn in HMS Peterel to the Pool, HMS Constant, Woolwich Tender and two Dock Yard Lighters armed with Royal Marines, Deptford and Blackwall, the Sheerness Tender and HMS Minx arrived from the Nore, a Boat from each of His Majesty's Ships at Woolwich and Long Reach being attached to the Division at Pool etc.
