Description

Folios 36-37: Keith Maxwell, HMS Hound, Deptford. [Report on the actions he has taken with regard to the Impressed men in Deptford and Woolwich. Mentions:-] Twenty Riggers, Forty Royal Marines from the Guard at Deptford, Using the Captains, Lieutenants, Petty Officers etc. First Division in the Poole under Captain Alexander Robert Kerr of HMS Diligence, Second Division off Deptford under Captain Christopher Strachey of HMS Jalouse, and third Division off Greenwich and Blackwall under Captain Charles Coote of HMS Ranger. He encloses [not present] the different reports of which Officers with the names and qualities of the men impressed in total four hundred and twenty eight men. He also ordered last night three Pilots onboard HMS Diligence, HMS Locust and HMS Conflict, Gun Vessels to carry the two former to HMS Tower in order to co-operate with, and assist Captain [Thomas] Richbell in the execution of the part of the Service allotted to his Management and the latter to HMS Woolwich to receive and secure such men as may be there impressed. He also took the most speedy means of forwarding their Commands to HMS Woolwich and making the necessary arrangements for the successful execution of the same in that quarter and verbally communicated with Captain John Tower of HMS Lark at one in the Morning. He has appointed HM Gun Vessels:- HMS Adder, HMS Conflict and HMS Monkey receiving ships as they lay at single moorings, with an additional Guard of Royal Marines for the better security of the men impressed until he receives further commands

[Plus a list of Ships and Captains:-] HMS Monkey - James Tillard, HMS Ranger[?] - Charles Coote[?], HMS Woolwich - Ulick Jennings[?], HMS Jalouse - Christopher Strachey, HMS Adder - John Parish[?], HMS Conflict - William Stanley, HMS Diligence - Jeremiah Brown [Browne], HMS Fairy - Edward [?], HMS Virginie - J Cruttenden[?] & HMS Constant, John Stokes. [Copy of the Order sent to each of them].
