Folios 247-248: Robert Montagu, HMS Sampson, St. Helens. Reports that in a heavy gale HMS Sampson struck the ground and the transom beam was broken and the rudder carried off. Advises the ship will be lost unless she is lightened and he has taken steps to do so, especially with the worsening gale. Recommends that she is not sent on service until her bottom is examined.
