Folios 241-242: Robert Montagu, HMS Sampson, St. Helens. Acknowledges orders to put himself, his ships and convoy under the command of Captain Christopher Mason which he will do on arrival of HMS Zealous. Advises he had intended to send HMS Porcupine to Falmouth to collect any Merchantmen ready to put to sea, but will await Captain Christopher Mason's arrival and seek his authority. Advises he has moved to St. Helens because it is difficult for Masters of Merchantmen to keep their men on board, either at the Motherbank or Spithead.
