The National Centre for the 3Rs (NC3Rs) is the UK's national organisation for the 3 Rs: Replacement, Reduction and Replacement. NC3Rs is a UK-based scientific organisation that works nationally and internationally on replacing, refining and reducing the use of animals in research and testing. The replacement principle aims to replace the use of animals with technology and other scientific tools where possible; the reduction principle aims to minimise the number of animals used in research by improving the design and reproducibility of animal experiments; and the refinement principle aims to minimise pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm to research animals by improving animal welfare by using technologies that minimise these effects.
