Court and Date of Trial: [Borough of Sheffield Petty Sessions], West Riding of Yorkshire, 8 September 1848.
Crime: Want of sureties to keep the peace towards Ann Marsden and others.
Initial sentence: Six months imprisonment in default of sureties but found insane and detained during H M Pleasure.
Outcome: 'Remove' [to the Wakefield Pauper Lunatic Asylum].
Petitions and letters: Prisoner's commitment to prison; legal certificate of insanity by J A Rhodes and J Holdsworth (justices) with a medical certificate of the same appended by Henry Dunn and William Ralph Milner (surgeons); letter from [Edward Shephurd] (Governor of Wakefield House of Correction) transmitting the above papers to the Home Office and confirming that the justices will make a maintenance order on the Parish of Sheffield.
