Description

Folios: 480-480v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter K. Quitclaim.

First party: Agnes, late wife of Master Payn the carpenter.

Second party: William de Lungespey [Longespee] and Idonia, his wife.

Place or subject: All Agnes's right and claim in all lands, tenements, fees and rents within the city and suburbs and bailiwick of Lincoln belonging to the barony of Haya [Haye] and to Lincoln Castle, namely in two tofts which Richard de Faldingwrth [Faldingworth], parson, holds in Neuport [Newport], in two tofts which Adam son of Herbert holds there, and in one toft which Philip the clerk holds there. Which tofts lie between Richard's principal messuage towards the north and the toft once of Richard Gyfard on the south side, which Philip himself holds. And also her right in three tofts which Ralph del Garth holds there, in one toft which Maurice son of Swane holds there, in one toft which Osbert the skinner holds there, in two tofts which William del Garth formerly held there, and in one toft which the abbot of Wellebek [Welbeck] holds there. Which tofts lie between the land of Alan son of Hugh on the north side and the great garden on the south side. All of which tofts extend together in length from the royal street of Neuport as far as the king's ditch towards the east. Also her right in two tofts next to the churchyard of St Nicholas on the south side, and they abut upon the great garden, which Gilbert de Neuport, clerk, holds. Also her right in two tofts in Sastangat which William de Neuport, clerk, holds, in one toft which Robert Dant holds there, in one toft which Walter Rupet holds there, and in the land which the mother of William Bad holds there. Which tofts lie in width between the land of the church of St Mary, Lincoln, and the land of the hospital of the Innocents of Lincoln, and they extend in length from the royal street as far as the great garden towards the south. Also her right in one toft which Simon Scotus holds there, in one toft which Ranulf the baker holds there, and in one great toft which William the skinner holds there. Which lie between the land of the hospital of Innocents of Lincoln on the west side and the king's ditch towards the east, and they extend in length from the royal street as far as the wall of the great garden towards the north, and in one land which lies on the east side within the great garden next to the king's ditch. And her right in one toft which William the smith holds next to the church of St Nicholas on the south side and the king's ditch outside the north gate of the bailiwick, and it extends in length from the royal street towards the east. And her right in the whole of the land and tenement which lie between the land of John de Crackehal [Crakehall] and the east gate of the bailiwick, which extend in length from the royal street towards the south, of which tenement Stacius the cook holds one toft, Hugh Finamur one toft, the son of Ranulf the baker a certain messuage, the archdeacon of Bucigham [Buckingham] one toft. And on the south side of the same gate and royal street Yonus the clerk holds one toft, Walter Blund once held one toft. And her right in the whole of that tenement, just as it lies in length next to the churchyard of St Michael upon the Hill from the west gate of the bishop as far as the south gate of the bailiwick, of which tenement John Vitriarius holds one toft, Lemerus one toft, the succentor of Linc' [Lincoln] one toft, Alan the tailor (cissor) once held one toft, John Ruffus once held one toft, Thomas the baker holds one toft, William de Tylbroc once held a certain great messuage by the south gate of the bailiwick. And also her right in the land which Master Stephen de Cycest' [Chichester] once held in the parish of St Clement, and in the land which Anota le Parelur holds there next to the land of Master Stephen. And also her right in the land in which Agnes dwells in the parish of St Clement next to the churchyard. In such a way that after Agnes's death, they are to have the free faculty of having and possessing that [land] free. To hold with all liberties, easements and appurtenances to William and Idonia, his wife, and their heirs or assigns as freely, quietly, peacefully, entirely and in inheritance forever, as any tenant, land or rent can be had, given or held more fully, freely or better.
