Description

Folios: 477-477v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter K. Grant.

First party: William de Romar' [Roumare].

Second party: Emma, sister of Walter Bueri.

Place or subject: The whole of William's lordship in Radeb' [Redbourne], excepting two bovates which Ralph de Cadamo [Caen] held, and excepting one cultivated field called Milnenuang on the south side of the mill, and excepting the church and William's mill, and fourteen bovates and in the same vill, from which Alan son of Ellis held one great way and a fourth part; Geoffrey held a fourth part; Rengot Barat one; Adelstan son of Orger, two; Siwat son of Gutred, one; the wife of Ingolef a half part; Baldric Bubulcus a half part; Anke one bovate; Ailmund one; Habe a half part; Siuate son of Airic a half part; and Edric le Sergant one bovate. To hold to Emma and her heirs and the heirs of Walter Bueri in exchange for Camel, which Emma and her heirs and the heirs of Walter Bueri quitclaimed to William in the presence of Henry II, son of Matilda, the empress. William has given this to them free and quit with all appurtenances in tofts, crofts, waters, meadows, arable land and pastures, for the service of half a knight, because Emma and her heirs and the heirs of Walter Bueri quitclaimed to him £10 worth of land which William settled upon them in the presence of the king for the service of one knight for the same Camel, and because they settled for less that William paid to them, William released to them a moiety of one knight's service.
