Description

Folio: 460v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter I. Demise.

First party: John, son of Peter Galle of Sauf' [Saltfleetby].

Second party: Henry le Franceys of Wydchal [Withcall] and Iveta, his wife.

Place or subject: One toft with the houses built upon it in the vill of Wydchal [Withcall], namely that toft which Richard Druri formerly held, and it lies on the south side of the toft which Richard the carpenter formerly held between the garden late of Nicholas de Cantilupe on the west side and the common way of the vill which leads towards Suth Beck on the east side, with free entry and exit and all other appurtenances pertaining to that toft. For his service. Henry cannot give, sell or pledge the premises to Jews or religious men or assign them to anyone else. To hold to Henry and Iveta, his wife, during the whole of their lives, of John and his heirs freely, quietly, entirely and in peace, paying 2s yearly to John and his heirs at three terms of the year, namely 8d at each of the feasts of St Botolph, Martinmas and Easter, for all secular services and demands, excepting 'sacrabar', if it runs, and all commons of the vill which belong to that toft. After the deaths of Henry and Iveta the toft will revert to John and his heirs without opposition. Henry and Iveta ought to repair and maintain the buildings in the toft at their own costs and keep them decently maintained in the same state as they took them, or in a better state.
