Description

Folio: 446v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter I. Exchange of lands.

First party: Geoffrey de Thorlay.

Second party: William, son of Gilbert de Beningwrth [Benniworth].

Place or subject: The whole of Geoffrey's land of Thorlay with his messuage with services and rents of both freemen and villeins living there; and all Geoffrey's villeins of that vill with their lands, chattels and followings, without any reservation, to Geoffrey or his heirs with all appurtenances and easements pertaining to that land and tenement within the vill and outside, in woods, plains, ways, paths and pastures. For his homage and service. To hold to William and his heirs and assigns of Geoffrey and his heirs in fee and inheritance freely, quietly, well, peacefully and honourably, paying yearly to Geoffrey and his heirs in the octave of St John the Baptist one pair of gloves or 1d for all secular services, exactions and demands. For this grant, William gave to Geoffrey and his heirs as much land in Sandwath and Billeburg [Billingborough] as Geoffrey holds of him in those vills. William also gave Geoffrey 200 marks in his great need.
