Description

Folios: 442v-442 [sic]. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter H. Grant.

First party: Beatrice, widow, late wife of William, son of David de Horbling.

Second party: Maud, her daughter.

Place or subject: Seven selions of arable land and two perches in the territory of Horbling from the land which Robert son of Payn, Beatrice's father, gave to Beatrice in free marriage, with all appurtenances and easements, in meadows, pastures and pasturages, one selion of which lies upon Westwrongland and another selion in Litildale next to the land which was of Alan son of Reginald; and the third selion upon Holondgatefurlong next to the acre of the church, and the north side abuts upon Bolde and the south side upon the royal way towards Hoylaund; and a fourth selion below Stongate next to two perches; and the fifth selion at Holewelle next to the acre of the church; and the sixth selion upon Holondegate between the land which was of Ralph the reeve and the land of Robert, son of William son of David; and the seventh selion upon Wotland, and it abuts upon the great ditch; and two perches lie in Sik next to the land of John son of Roger. For her service. To hold to Maud and her heirs or assigns freely, quietly, well and in peace, fee and inheritance, paying yearly the service which Beatrice did to Robert, her father, namely 1½d for a share of such land at Michaelmas for all service, custom and demand. Saving foreign service of the king as far as it pertains to such land.
