Description

Folio: 414v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter E. Obligation.

First party: Hugh, son of Simon Cnotting of Skitebroc [Skidbrooke].

Second party: Philip Galle of Saltfletby [Saltfleetby].

Place or subject: Hugh has bound himself and his heirs to Philip to pay to him and his heirs 2s of annual rent at four terms of the year appointed in the soke of Gayton for all services pertaining to Philip or his heirs, and for suits of his court for one plot of land in Skitebroc [Skidbrooke] lying between the land of John son of Swain on the south side and the land of Roger the priest on the north side, and abutting upon the royal way towards the west and upon the land of John son of Swain towards the east, which land Philip gave to Hugh and his heirs, to hold by charter from him and his heirs. Saving to Philip and his heirs free entry and exit in the same land with ploughs, carriages and carts, when necessary, to his land lying on the east side of that land. If Hugh or his heirs at any of those terms cease in the payment of this annual rent and leave the tenement, it will be lawful for Philip and his heirs to distrain Hugh and his heirs by all their possessions and goods, moveable and immoveable, in all ways, paths, pastures, commons and all the lands which they have, or will have, without any opposition.
