Description

Folios: 408v-409. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter E. Agreement.

First party: Master John Galle of Saltfleteby [Saltfleetby].

Second party: Peter Galle, knight, his brother.

Place or subject: John granted and demised at farm to Peter all his lands and tenements which he had in the vills and territories of Great Carleton [Great Carlton], Gillewod [Gillwood] and Styveton [Stewton], with messuages, buildings, tofts and crofts, meadows, pastures, pasturages and all other appurtenances, liberties and easements, without any reservation. To hold to Peter from the term of St Peter, when he will begin to receive the crop and issue thereof, with oxen and draught beasts found there, until the end of ten years next following. Paying yearly to John and his heirs or assigns ten marks at two terms of the year, namely five marks at Easter and five marks at Martinmas, for all services, exactions and demands. Once this term has finished, these lands are to revert to John quietly, absolutely and without claim from Peter and his heirs or assigns, and will remain in peace forever. If it happens that Peter dies within this term, it will be lawful for John, his heirs and assigns to enter into those lands immediately after his death and have and hold them in the state in which they are, freely and without opposition from anyone forever. After the end of that term Peter, if he is still alive, is to restore the land in as good a state with carts, oxen and draught beasts, as he took them, without challenge or impediment.

County: [Lincolnshire].

Additional people: Witnesses: Herbert de Saltfleteby [Saltfleetby]; Robert de Sumercotes [Somercotes]; John, son of Ralph de Karleton [Carlton]; John de Cormayles [Cormeilles]; Robert de Shaddewrth; Philip le Vavasur [Vavasour]; Philip de Boneyr; Walter del Fen; and John, rector of the church of Little Karleton [Little Carlton].
