Description

Folios: 400v-401. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter E. Agreement.

First party: Philip Galle.

Second party: Thomas le Noren of Schitebroc [Skidbrooke] and Edith, his wife.

Place or subject: Philip demised to Thomas and Edith for the term of their lives a moiety of one toft with buildings in Schitebroc [Skidbrooke] in a place called Meles, lying between the land of Adam de Raytheby [Raithby] on the north side and Philip's own land on the south side, whose sides towards the west abut upon the way and towards the east upon the sea. For five marks which Thomas gave to Philip in advance. To hold of Philip and his heirs to Thomas and Edith for the term of their lives freely, quietly and peacefully, paying a halfpenny yearly to Philip and his heirs, namely at Michaelmas, for all services belonging to Philip. In addition, Philip granted and faithfully promised to Thomas and Edith four and a half quarters of wheat at Salfletby [Saltfleetby], to be received throughout twelve weeks, one quarter as long as Philip and his heirs hold the toft, which they have by the gift of Thomas, and with Edith's assent, according to the tenor of his charter, without opposition from Thomas and Edith or their heirs or anyone else.
