Description

Folios: 335-335v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter D. Final concord.

First party: Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln.

Second party: John Galle.

Place or subject: 272 acres of land, 119 acres of meadow and pasture and one mill with appurtenances in Saltfleteby [Saltfleetby] and the advowson of the church of St Clement of the same vill with appurtenances. Whereupon a plea of warranty of charter was summoned between them in court, namely that John acknowledged these tenements with appurtenances, as in demesnes, homages, advowsons of churches, rents, services of freeholders, villeinages with the villeins holding those villeinages, wards, reliefs, escheats, waters, ponds, mills and all other things pertaining to those tenements, to be the right of the same earl as those which pertain to him as those he has by John's gift. To hold to the same earl and his heirs of the chief lords of that fee by the services which pertain to those tenements forever. John also granted that one messuage, 141 acres of land, 103 acres of meadow and pasture with appurtenances, excepting fifteen acres of meadow in the marsh of Holmfen, which Maud, who was the wife of Peter Galle, held in dower in the vill of Saltfleteby [Saltfleetby], concerning which this concord was made, from the inheritance of the same John, and which after Maud's death ought to revert to John, after her death are to entirely remain to the same earl and his heirs. To hold of the chief lords of that fee, together with all those lands and tenements with appurtenances which remain to the same earl by this fine, by the services which pertain to those tenements forever. For this concord the earl gave to John one sparrowhawk.
