Description

Folio: 319v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter D. Settlement of a dispute.

First party: The prior and convent of Ormesby [Ormsby].

Second party: Master John Galle of Salfletby [Saltfleetby].

Place or subject: A dispute arose between the prior and convent and John Galle concerning annual rents sought and due on both sides. The prior and convent sought 4s 4d from a certain tenement in Salfletby [Saltfleetby] called Horcroft, and on John's part 3s were sought for the moiety of the site and pond of one mill in Coklingthon [Cockerington], of which Philip Galle was enfeoffed by John de Wyum, who demised it to him. And after negotiations it was agreed by both parties that full remissions of 3s of annual rent be made on both sides forever. Because in the petition of the prior and convent 16d of annual rent were sought, which exceeded John's petition, John granted that he would pay these 16d to the prior and convent yearly forever at two terms, namely 8d at Easter within the octave, and 8d within the octave of Michaelmas, for all services, suits of court and all kinds of demands. And so all actions were remitted to both parties. Except that John, with the agreement of the prior and convent, reserved to himself and his heirs that they can, when they see it as expedient, seek by themselves or by those whom they wish, according to the form of their charter, that they might grind, without multure, in the mill nearest to that which is in the fee of Semplingham [Sempringham], the corn of John and his heirs which grows in their lordship at Cokeringthon [Cockerington] to their own uses.

County: [Lincolnshire].

Additional people: Osbert de Tawell [Tathwell] and Lauretta, his wife. Witnesses: William, son of Andrew de Sumercotes [Somercotes]; Robert, son of John de Sumercotes; Robert de Sadword; Philip le Vavasur [Vavasour]; Andrew de Schupholm; John, son of John de Salfletby [Saltfleetby]; Philip de Bonayre; Adam, son of William de Salfletby; Ranulf Pya of the same; and William of the same, clerk.
