Description

Folios: 311v-312. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter D. Grant.

First party: John the cook, son of Robert Palmer of Saufledby [Saltfleetby].

Second party: Walter de Norne and John le Norne, brothers of Saufledby.

Place or subject: Three acres of arable land with appurtenances in John the cook's croft in Saufledby [Saltfleetby], lying between John's land next on the west side and Walter's meadow next on the east side, and they abut upon the way called Saltergate towards the south and upon John the cook's land towards the north, with free entry and exit. To hold to Walter and John, their heirs or assigns, excepting religious men, of John the cook and his heirs freely, quietly, in fee and inheritance, paying 3d yearly to John himself and his heirs, namely 2d at Easter and 1d at Michaelmas for all secular services, customs, suits of court and demands. If it happens that Walter and John or their heirs or assigns do not want to sell or alienate this land in any case, John the cook and his heirs will be next before others at the same price. If that John or his heirs want to sell any part of the land there, Walter and John and their heirs or assigns will be next before others at a reasonable price, unless they refuse. Both parties pledged to faithfully and firmly keep this grant, under pain of 40s. For this gift Walter and John gave John the cook a certain sum of money in advance.
