Description

Folio: 303. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter D. Settlement of a dispute.

First party: W, abbot of Parcolud [Louth Park] and the prior of Alvyngham [Alvingham].

Second party: [unspecified].

Place or subject: They make known a controversy between Reginald, son of Jungwin of Salfleteby [Saltfleetby], marked by the cross, on the one part, and Walter the clerk and Walter the layman, sons of Robert de Raytheby [Raithby], on the other part, which controversy was committed to the abbot and prior to be ended by letters of Guala, legate of the pope, gained from Reginald, in 1218, on the 15 kalends June [18 May 1218], by the assent of the parties was settled. Namely that Reginald quitclaimed to W. the clerk and W. the layman all complaints, exactions and injuries made by them on him forever. W. the clerk and W. the layman completely remitted to Reginald all complaints and exactions which they had against him at that day, and also all injuries forever. In addition, W. the clerk gave Reginald one half-acre of meadow in the territory of Salfleteby [Saltfleetby] of the north head of his great dole on the east side, namely to the width of four perches, until he has one half-acre. To hold to to him and his heirs in fee and inheritance of W. and his heirs freely and quietly for his homage and service, paying 6d yearly at four terms of the soke of Hayton, namely 1½d at each term for all services. Walter the layman also gave Reginald that toft in Saltfleetby in which Jungwin, his father, once lived. To hold to him and his heirs in fee and inheritance of Walter and his heirs freely and quietly for his homage and service, paying 16d to him yearly for all services, namely 8d at Easter and 8d at Michaelmas.
