Folio: 297. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter C. Release.
First party: Elias son of Bennet and Slenia, his wife.
Second party: Ranulf, earl of Chester [Ranulf de Blundeville].
Place or subject: All their demand in the lands of Hauton [Halton], Steping [Steeping] and Kintorp [Kingthorpe] with appurtenances by reason of a debt which Gilbert de Beningwurth [Benniworth] owed to them. Retaining to Elias and Slenia their whole debt upon the manor of Beningwrth [Benniworth] and upon all other lands of the same Gilbert, wheresoever they be, except for those lands which they released to the earl from this debt. They also granted to the earl that he and his heirs or assigns are to hold five marks worth of rent in Benniworth quit from that debt for the term of eight years, beginning at Easter in 1223, and at the end of that term those five marks will be bound to Elias and Slenia for their debt, just as other land in the same vill.
