Description

Folios: 286-286v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter C. Grant.

First party: Walter, son of Matthew de Beningwrd [Benniworth].

Second party: Alan the deacon, son of Leuwin.

Place or subject: That toft which Henry son of Robert held in Little Stepingia [Little Steeping], with a house built there, and with the whole croft which lies between Suthcroft and between Bennecroft, and it abuts towards the west upon Wath and towards the east upon Madinedich, with free exit and entry and with all free common within the vill and outside. Walter also gave to Alan one dole which Henry son of Robert held in Haadeiles, namely two and a half acres of meadow which lies between the meadow that Robert son of William held, and between the meadow which Andrew son of Cnuth held, and it abuts towards the south upon Haa and towards the south upon Markedich. For his homage and service. To hold to Alan and his assigns from Walter and his heirs in fee and inheritance freely, quietly, absolutely and honourably. Paying yearly to Walter and his heirs 12d for all service which pertains to Walter and his heirs, namely 3d at Michaelmas, 3d at Christmas, 3d at Easter, and 3d at the feast of St Botolph, and doing foreign service which pertains to that toft.
