Place or subject: Matthew makes known that Roger de Beningwrda, his brother, has granted him and his heirs the whole vill of Stepinga [Steeping] in fee and inheritance. To hold of Roger and his heirs in waters, mills, monasteries, meadows and marshes and in all things which pertain to that vill, by the service of half a knight. He also gave to Matthew and his heirs the service of Hugh de Stepinga [Steeping] and his heirs by the service of an eighth part of one knight and three bovates of land in Hautona [Halton]. If Matthew dies without heirs, that land and service will revert to the lordship of Roger Beningwrde, his brother, and his heirs.
