Description

Folios: 245-245v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter A. Writ.

First party: Edward I.

Second party: The knights, freemen and all other tenants of the manors of Thoresby, Wathe [Waithe], Ingoldemeles [Ingoldmells], Wrangel [Wrangle], Steping [Steeping] and Waynflet [Wainfleet], which were of Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln and constable of the castle of Chester.

Place or subject: Whereas the earl lately quitclaimed to the king all these manors with appurtenances, to hold to the king and his heirs, together with knights' fees, advowsons of churches and all other things which the earl had before handing them over, in those manors without any reservation forever, now, by the king's charter, for the laudable service which the earl has given to the king, the king has granted him all those manors with appurtenances. To hold to the earl for life of the chief lords of that fee or of the king or of others by the services due and accustomed freely and quietly, together with knights' fees, advowsons of churches and all other things which the earl had before handing them over in those manors without any reservation, increment or decrement, just as is more fully contained in th charter. The king orders these knights and tenants to be attendant and answerable to the earl as to a lord of those manors.
