First party: John, duke of Lancaster [John of Gaunt], and Blanche, his wife.
Second party: Robert de la Mare, knight, John de Charnele, clerk, and John de Neumarche.
Place or subject: Robert, John and John have granted and leased by their charter, indented, to Duke John and Blanche and their heirs in tail the castle, manor and honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], the manor of Sutton in Holand [Long Sutton] and all the other manors, lands, tenements, rents, services, reversions, fees, advowsons, offices, bailiwicks and possessions with all manner of franchises, profits, commodities and other appurtenances which they have jointly with others from the gift and grant of Henry, late duke of Lancaster [Henry of Grosmont]. To hold to the duke and Blanche, his wife, and their heirs in tail of the king and other lords of the fees by the services due and accustomed, paying to Robert, John and John and their heirs 1,000 marks a year. Robert, John and John grant that, if the duke and Blanche and their heirs in tail or the right heirs of Henry, in default of issue, pay yearly to them or their executors £400 a year at Leicester at four terms of the year, etc, then that rent of 1,000 marks is to cease forever.
