Description

Folios: 231v-232v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter A. Indenture of agreement.

First party: John, earl of Lancaster and Richemond [Richmond] [John of Gaunt].

Second party: Robert de la Mare and John de Bukland [Buckland], knights, John de Charnelles, clerk, and John de Neumarche, executors and administrators of the will of Henry, duke of Lancaster [Henry of Grosmont].

Place or subject: [The entry concerns the dealings of the executors regarding the will of the duke of Lancaster and how they deal with his debts and goods]. The duke of Lancaster gave to certain men certain lands to hold until his debts were fully paid, etc, and to enfeoff John, earl of Lancaster and Richmond, and Blanche, his wife, of those lands, to hold to them and their heirs in tail. The executors were to enfeoff the earl of all the lands of the honor of Tuttebury, the site of the castle and the park of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], and all knights' fees and advowsons in Lincolnshire which they have of the gift of the duke, excepting the vills of Brassington, Matlock and Hertyngdon [Hartington], in which vills the lady of Walkington has £100 worth of land for the term of her life. The earl is to allow the executors and administrators to do all things touching the will. The executors can freely hold and enjoy all the profits of the vill of Bolingbroke, except for the site of the castle, the park, fees and advowsons, and all the other lands in Lincolnshire which were given to the duke, etc. [Further details given].
